Series:  A Weatherproof Faith

Topic: Hunker Down (Surrender)

Text: Luke 9:23-26

SCRIPTURE: As you work through this passage, talk about the meaning of verse 25, “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” And verse 26, “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”

ACCOUNTABILITY: This is a challenging passage to live out. How do you “deny yourself and take up your cross daily?” What is the reality of that statement?

Verse 23 in The Message says, “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat—I am.” As independent Americans, we always want to drive, right? How do we practically give the “driver’s seat” over to Jesus?

TRANSFORMATION: At Faith Church we define a “disciple” or a follower of Jesus as one who follows Jesus, becomes like Jesus and does what Jesus does. Think about where you were in your spiritual growth one year ago compared to where you are today. Have you made progress? If so, we are thankful for your good path. If you don’t see yourself growing closer to God, talk to Him about your desire to get back in sync with Him. Think of a spiritual friend who will walk with you on your journey. God wants to be in your life. He is waiting…

If you need a “spiritual friend,” or if you would like to fill that role for someone, contact your campus. God created us for community.

“He wants all or nothing. The thought of a person calling himself a ‘Christian’ without being a devoted follower of Christ is absurd.” Francis Chan
