Series: Immeasurably More

Title: What does God want?

Text: Matthew 6:19-24

SCRIPTURE:  Talk through verses 19-21, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” How have these verses played out in your life?

Discuss I Timothy 6:17-19 and list the directives in this passage.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Bible speaks so often about money. Why do you think we get a bit uneasy when it is talked about in church?

It is worth thinking about how we pray. When you pray, do you ask for “bread,” (needs) or for more than you need?

TRANSFORMATION: How comfortable are you talking about money? How do you feel about your financial life and also how much you give away of what you have been given?

Talk this through with your group: Randy Alcorn in Treasure Principle, says, “Why did Jesus put such an emphasis on money and possessions? Because there’s a fundamental connection between our spiritual lives and how we think about and handle money. We may try to divorce our faith and our finances, but God sees them as inseparable.”

“God is always trying to give good things to us, but our hands are too full to receive them.” Augustine

He Gets Us

Though Jesus walked the earth 2,000 years ago, He still knows about the problems you face today. Not only does Jesus know what plagues us as a culture, He gets us. Jesus can relate. He was tempted, too. He was disrespected, too. He was doubted, too. He mourned, too. He suffered, too.

Faith Church is joining other churches in the Chicagoland area for the series, He Gets Us. We’ll explore that Jesus knows about our insecurity, exhaustion, anxiety, guilt, loneliness and grief. Join us for this new series as we find assurance in knowing we aren’t alone in this world. We have a Savior who gets us and cares about what we are feeling.
