organic disciples – week 5

Small Group Questions – Week 5

Humble Service

How caring hearts and compassionate hands show God’s love for all people

Jesus left the glory of heaven and came to serve us. His disciples joyfully serve their Savior, His Church, and the world He loves. When we care like Jesus does, the world sees a vision of the servant Savior. Our service can open the door for them to hear our stories of who Jesus is and how He loves.

Jesus began serving us before He was born. His incarnation presents an awe-inspiring picture of His humble service to us. Read Mark 10:45 and discuss.

Read John 13:1-17. Who and how did Jesus serve? How do you see yourself in this picture?

As you reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for you (the ultimate service to mankind), what is the connection between His humble service and the Gospel coming to the world?

How would the message of our faith be different if Jesus had not come to earth, washed feet, and humbly given His life?

Jesus made it clear that His service is an example for us to follow. How do you seek to serve others with a humble heart? What seems to get in the way of you living a self-sacrificing life?

What is the next step God is calling you to in the area of humble service? Who is He calling you to serve more? Consider where you work, go to school, live, play and shop. Make a plan of service for the next week, month and year.

Why is sharing Jesus an important part of serving others in our community?

People often ask “why?” when we serve them. Are you ready with an answer?

Pray for one another:

  • Thank God for humbly entering our world and offering His life for us
  • Ask God to increase your awareness of needs around you
  • Invite the Holy Spirit to help you identify those places where you tend to be more self-serving
  • Thank God for the humble servants in your life

Humble service demands that we decrease our pace and increase our attentiveness.

Current Series

He Gets Us

Though Jesus walked the earth 2,000 years ago, He still knows about the problems you face today. Not only does Jesus know what plagues us as a culture, He gets us. Jesus can relate. He was tempted, too. He was disrespected, too. He was doubted, too. He mourned, too. He suffered, too.

Faith Church is joining other churches in the Chicagoland area for the series, He Gets Us. We’ll explore that Jesus knows about our insecurity, exhaustion, anxiety, guilt, loneliness and grief. Join us for this new series as we find assurance in knowing we aren’t alone in this world. We have a Savior who gets us and cares about what we are feeling.
