Series: The Music of Christmas

Topic: Simeon’s Hymn

Text: Luke 2:29-32

SCRIPTURE: To get some context to this story, read together Luke 2:21-35. Everything the Bible says about Simeon is in this passage. What do we know?

Why was Jesus brought to the temple? Jewish people knew the Messiah was coming to save them. What do we learn from Simeon’s prayer that extends salvation beyond the Jewish people?

ACCOUNTABILITY: Simeon had been promised to see the Messiah before he died. That was his whole bucket list. What is on your spiritual bucket list?

TRANSFORMATION: In verse 32, we read, A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations, and of glory for your people Israel,” (The Message). How are you passing on the light of Jesus to your world?

“The birth of Jesus made possible not just a new way of understanding life but a new way of living it.” Frederick Buechner

Worth The Wait

The holiday season is a time in which we prepare to celebrate Christmas with decorations, shopping for presents and yuletide festivities. And every year, it seems to start earlier and earlier. Do you know the preparation for the first Christmas wasn’t just weeks or months in the making but thousands of years?

King David’s life points us to the life and ministry of the child born on Christmas, as his life shows us the kind of king that Jesus comes to be and even surpasses. This holiday season join us as we see how the life of David foreshadows God’s greatest gift to mankind, Jesus Christ, who was most certainly worth the wait.
