Giving

God has created each one of us to have unique gifts and talents. When we use those gifts to serve others, we become participants in God’s plan to transform the world. Lives are changed—not just the lives of those we help, but also our own. When we do what God designed us to do, and when we love others the way God loves us, we get closer to being who God intended us to be.

We would love to connect you with one of the many opportunities to give your time and talents through serving at Faith Church. Visit our SERVE page for more information!

The Bible has much to say about the topic of finances. It teaches us that everything that we have comes from God (Psalm 24:1) and that we therefore are to use them to honor God. However, the Bible also teaches us that we can love money and be tempted to use it not to honor God (1 Timothy 6:10Hebrews 13:5). In fact, Jesus tells us that how we view and use our financial resources reflects our heart (Matthew 6:21) and that we must choose between having God or money as our master (Matthew 6:24).

Honoring God with our money involves giving back a portion of what God has blessed with us to Him. The Bible teaches that we are to give to God our first and our best (Proverbs 3:9), with the people of the Old Testament instructed to give back to God the first 10% of what their grew or earned as a way to remember that all things come from him (Malachi 3:10). This sets a good standard for us who have seen God’s grace even more abundantly in Jesus Christ, as we know that “though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Our giving should not be done out of obligation but out of joy in light of what God has done for us in Christ, so we should seek to continue to grow in our generosity so that we can both be like God in giving away our resources and help others know God through. We read these wonderful words in 2 Corinthians 9:6-9 that remind us about how and why we can be generous:

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.

Policies are in place to insure that funds are handled in an orderly and responsible way, and there is an annual review conducted by an independent CPA of our financial activity and practices. Financial integrity is a key value of our leadership as we are stewards of the resources given by the congregation, and ultimately, stewards accountable to God for what He has given us.
