In an effort to bring cohesion to our local mission endeavors as well as be able to celebrate our collective efforts effectively, our mission team has defined three categories for our work: Food, Shelter, and Education. We believe this will provide an adequate umbrella under which many of our current endeavors already fall, and also enough parameters to help decide what we do not have the capacity for.
Food
Faith Church serves our local communities by partnering with organizations that provide healthy food and nutritious meals for those experiencing food insecurity. We support efforts such as food pantries and soup kitchens that offer essential food assistance.
Shelter
Faith Church serves our local communities by supporting efforts that promote safe and affordable housing. This includes building affordable housing, assisting with home repair projects, and partnering with organizations that care for children and families in unstable environments. We support initiatives such as foster care agencies, domestic violence shelters and organizations committed to creating stable, loving homes.
Education
Faith Church serves our community by increasing access to quality education and Christian mentorship. We do this through partnerships with organizations that provide one-on-one mentoring, school supplies and direct support to students. We also seek to partner alongside our local schools as a source of encouragement and support.
Why Food?
The definition of ‘food security is “the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.” According to Feeding America, it is estimated that a little over 14% of people in Lake County, Indiana (69,750 people), and 12% in Cook County, Illinois and 7.2% in Will County, Illinois are food insecure.
Faith Church desires to serve our local communities by partnering with organizations such as food pantries and soup kitchens that provide food assistance.
Why Shelter?
We believe everyone should have safe and affordable housing. Faith Church desires to serve our local communities by building affordable housing and supporting home repair projects. In addition we feel led to be a part of influencing the thousands of children in unstable home environments; therefore, we seek to give of our time, talent and treasure to such organizations as foster care agencies, domestic violence shelters and building organizations whose primary mission is to promote stable, loving homes.
Why Education?
According to the Indiana Youth Insitute’s study in 2019, young people who have a mentor are 130% more likely to hold a leadership position. Through numerous avenues, we’ve learned one of the foundational components to breaking the poverty cycle is increased education.
We desire to serve our community by increasing access to quality education and Christian mentors through partnerships with organizations whose mission is to provide one on one mentors, school supplies and provide other support directly to students. In addition, we will strive to partner alongside our local schools to be a source of encouragement and support.
