COMPLICATED QUESTIONS: TRUTH IN GENESIS

  |

Series: Complicated Conversations: Truth in Genesis

Topic: Origins

Text: Genesis 1:1-31; Romans 11:8-23

SCRIPTURE:

  • Work through Genesis chapter one. Describe  what God did on each day.
  • Read Gen 1:1-5 and talk about the creation of light. Think on this quote from the Gospel Coalition Commentary, Light does not eradicate darkness; it merely alternates with it. Day and night are formed. This results in the creation of time.”
  • In this creation story, what is different about the creation of man?

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • How were you taught about creation?
  • Has your position about creation ever changed? How?
  • When asked, how do you reconcile the Bible with science?
  • Do you think it takes more faith to believe the Bible or to believe in the “big bang theory?”
  • As you watched the eclipse this past week, how did that experience confirm your belief in a Creator?

TRANSFORMATION:

  • What stood out to you from the video shown in the weekend service (see the link below)? What was most compelling? What questions does it raise?
  • How does believing in a created (instead of accidental) universe change our daily lives?
  • God is great, He is good and He is gracious. How do those attributions connect with God as creator?
  • How does God’s creation emphasize His trustworthiness?

Celebration Weekend

We celebrate small steps and momentous milestones. This weekend we celebrate commitment and life change by covenanting with those being baptized, cheering on adults in this symbolic declaration of faith and stepping up to point the children to Jesus. We commit to walking alongside those professing their faith in Christ and reach out to those transferring into our family, creating space for them to find community and their place of service amongst us. This is the weekend we celebrate the visual reminder of how God is restoring and transforming the world one relationship at a time and lean into the known of the much more we are called to do. Celebrate with us!
