Did Jesus say, “I will not give you more than you can handle?”

Subject:  Did Jesus say, “I will not give you more than you can handle?”

Scripture: Luke 14:25-33

For your conversation:

  1. Jesus deals with some really difficult issues in this passage. What struck you as an area needing some reprioritizing in your life?
  2. In verse 25 Jesus says we need to hate our family to follow Him. What did He mean? Maybe it’s not your family taking priority. What else in our lives can overshadow our love for God?
  3. This passage gives examples of not “counting the cost” in advance of a decision. What are some 2020 examples of NOT “counting the cost?” What does “counting the cost” mean regarding our relationship with Jesus?
  4. Some people who were with Jesus decided the cost was too high. Read John 6:66–68. “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Has following Jesus ever “cost” you something?
  5. What “next steps” of discipleship are you thinking about?

Truth in Genesis

What’s truth? We live in a society where people tend to define their own truths, using their own guidelines. Where values and beliefs are spun in such a way that makes us question if God’s way really is the best.

But does a Universal Truth exist? We believe there is and it’s been recorded in roughly 757,000 words. We invite you to join us as we open that source, God’s Word, and equip you to have complicated conversations with those who are defining their own truth.
