HE GETS US

  |

Series: HE GETS US

Topic: He gets our Grief

Passage: John 11

SCRIPTURE:

  • Talk about the chronology of this chapter – list the events.
  • Is this story really about Lazarus (who never speaks in the story)?
  • We all know verse 35, “Jesus wept.” Read the verses surrounding verse 35. What do you think caused Jesus to weep? Lazarus’ death? Or the heartache of his friends?
  • When we read I Corinthians 15:55, “Where, death, is your victory? Where death, is your sting?” What does that mean to you?
  • How does this story relate to Holy Week?

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • This passage talks about Jesus knowing the grief of losing a loved one. He gets our grief – He has experienced it. But in His grief, Jesus did not lose hope.
  • What can we learn from Jesus about how to walk through grief?
  • How does experiencing grief with or without hope change that experience?

TRANSFORMATION:

  • We never want to minimize grief – because grief is big. But we must remember, GOD IS BIGGER!!!
  • What are you grieving today?
  • How can what you learned about grieving help you in your process?
  • Who do you know who is grieving today?
  • How can you walk with someone in grief?

“You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. . . It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly – that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp.”Anne Lamott

Complicated Conversations

Truth in Genesis

What’s truth? We live in a society where people tend to define their own truths, using their own guidelines. Where values and beliefs are spun in such a way that makes us question if God’s way really is the best.

But does a Universal Truth exist? We believe there is and it’s been recorded in roughly 757,000 words. We invite you to join us as we open that source, God’s Word, and equip you to have complicated conversations with those who are defining their own truth.
