JESUS, SON OF GOD: HEADLINES FROM MARK

  |

SERIES: Jesus, Son of God: Headlines from Mark

TOPIC: Jesus Conquers Death and Disease

TEXT: Mark 5:21-43

SCRIPTURE:

  • Read this passage out loud together.
  • As you read about these two stories of healing, compare the similarities and differences of the two situations.
  • In both cases Jesus touched the person, even though both would have been considered “unclean.”  Why was this unheard of in Bible times?
  • Why do you think (in verse 43), Jesus “gave them strict orders that no one should know about this.”

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • We live in a time where we are recipients of incredible medical progress. When you have experienced healing in your life or in the life of someone you love, who gets the credit?
  • And when the medical community reaches the end of its abilities, what is our reaction?
  • In this passage, Jesus does something only God can do. What has He done in your life that “only God can do?”

TRANSFORMATION:

  • Why do you think our first response to tragedy is to rely on our own limited abilities?
  • Can you remember a time when you had no where to go but Jesus?
  • Does God still heal today?
  • When God doesn’t answer our prayers for physical healing, is He still good?

“God is the ultimate physician. His healing touch can mend not only our bodies but also our broken hearts.” Billy Graham

Celebration Weekend

We celebrate small steps and momentous milestones. This weekend we celebrate commitment and life change by covenanting with those being baptized, cheering on adults in this symbolic declaration of faith and stepping up to point the children to Jesus. We commit to walking alongside those professing their faith in Christ and reach out to those transferring into our family, creating space for them to find community and their place of service amongst us. This is the weekend we celebrate the visual reminder of how God is restoring and transforming the world one relationship at a time and lean into the known of the much more we are called to do. Celebrate with us!
