ON MISSION | Scripture Reference: Colossians 1:15-20
Discuss the following questions with your Small Group:
- What comes to mind when you hear about missions and missionaries? What is your experience with missions and missionaries?
- Read Colossians 1:15-20. What things jump out in terms of its description of Jesus?
- Read the following verses: John 1:1-3; John 1:18; John 14:9; Hebrews 1:3-4. What similar points do they make about Jesus, and what additional points do we learn about him?
- The passage mentions “thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities.” Read Colossians 2:15 and Ephesians 6:12. What do they tell us about these powers and forces and how they relate to us and Jesus?
- It says that Jesus is the head of the church. What do you think that means? What difference does it make for our lives and how we view the church?
- The passage says that in all things, Christ is to have the preeminence (and that all things are for him). What are things that we make more pre-eminent over Christ? What are places in your life that you don’t let Christ have the preeminence?
- The theme of our mission series is “Everybody, Everyday.” How are you planning on being on mission this week?
