Series: TITUS: CHARACTER COUNTS
Topic: Character in the World
Text: Titus 3:1-11
SCRIPTURE:
- Talk about what verse 1 means to you. “Remind them to submit to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work.”
- Read aloud verses 4-7. These words encapsulate the Gospel message. Take these verses apart, phrase by phrase, defining each in understandable language.
- Talk about verse 9. What does it mean? “But avoid foolish debates, genealogies, quarrels, and disputes about the law, because they are unprofitable and worthless.”
- What issues are worth debating?
- What issues are not?
ACCOUNTABILITY:
- If you identify yourself as a follower of Jesus, how do you think about Paul’s words in verse 3, “For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.” Talk about it together with your group.
- Verse 10 is some of the New Testament’s strongest language about divisive people. How are we to handle them? In our current social climate, what is the challenge?
- Discuss the meaning of good works before and after a decision for Jesus. What is the difference?
TRANSFORMATION:
- Besides it’s just a good way to live, what is an outreach reasoning behind Christians displaying a strong character?
- Is our character consistent face-to-face with our online character?
- We’ve talked out holding our church leaders to a high character standard. What about other leaders?
